Putting on jewelry is an act of self-love

As a jewelry artist, naturally I think about jewelry a lot: what it is, what it means, who wears it, why they wear it. While in the studio it occurred to me that wearing jewelry is an act of self-love. After all, who puts rings on smudgy fingers or necklaces on a dirt-streaked neck? (Unless you’re an edgy art director doing a Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar editorial fashion shoot). No one does this because adornment is an act of self-love: a finishing touch to a body scrubbed clean with sweet waters, polished to a sheen with buttery oils, gently scented with exquisite perfumes, dressed with thoughtful consideration, and crowned with glory.
