Recently I decided to take a break from making visual art. Right now I don’t feel especially passionate about visual art nor do I feel that I have anything significant to communicate. I strongly believe that art, above all else, should be passionate. It should move the viewer/listener emotionally and suggest alternate ways of viewing reality.

While I’m stepping back from making art objects, I have found myself more and more attracted to sound art. I’m trying to understand what it is, where it’s shown, who its audiences are, what the opportunities for collaboration and exhibitions are. I’m excited about this new direction in my art practice.

I recently discovered the work of Miguel Álvarez-Fernández while researching sound artists. Miguel Álvarez-Fernández (Born 1979 in Madrid, Spain) is a sound artist, theorist and curator based in Berlin, where he has taught at the Electronic Music Studio of the Technical University of Berlin. He also lectures regularly at the Department of Art History and Musicology of the University of Oviedo (Spain), as a specialist in Sound Art and Electroacoustic music.
