I’m still playing around with these beads. This weekend I sanded off most of the gilding so that a little of the coffee texture and a little of the gilding shows. Who knows how it will turn out, but it’s fun to play.

wow – the torch and the flux seem a tad complicated,
however, once you have done the procedure several
times, it probably becomes so much easier, and
luckily the torch, at least the one is this demo is
smaller than one would expect.

the coffee ground bead idea is an excellent one.

the mossy beads are eye-catching and reflect summer for me because of the color.
your amber nut beads strike a visceral chord with
me; as they are very earthy and appear tactile.
also the various shadings of the brown color
gives each bead within the piece a unique quality.

I agree, how could anyone not who is even marginally aware of the “art scene” ,however your art Alexis is
so phenomenal it would be a shame not to continue
in the vein of exploring, showcasing african-american
and latin women. I feel you would open the minds of
artists and art critics alike, once they see the honor
you bestow upon each figurative subject.
Alexis, perhaps you could include white woman in
the body of your work, here and there, or historically
[racially]mixed woman.

Have you seen this? Kehinde Wiley’s portraits of lower-class black men in self-consciously royal European poses w/ Euro-style backgrounds. Nicely subverts European aesthetics while really being about black identity.
